Globalisation

A new era is coming in the hospitality industry where chain hotels begin to restructure their property management systems. I feel that this huge break through in the industry because for guests. For example in the situation of Intercontinental group, owning six brand of hotels chains. It allows them to filter guests’ profiles across 500 hotels over the world, so whether you decide to stay in sunny Spain or relax in the Emerald Isle, check in to a hotel is never going to be the same again.

From a hotels point of view this gives them a competitive advantage like no other, it reduces cost by allowing hotel to complete audits world wide also it’s an insight to compare and contract Hotels performance across the world. Communication is extremely important especially in hotels that are in a chain and I feel that with this integrated system the service industry can go beyond guest’s expectations

Web Standards

The Web Standards Project (WaSP) fights for standards in relation to accessibility and long-term viability of any site published on the Web. They work with browser companies, authoring tool makers. Companies now must ensure that they are not ignorant of other people disabilities and that there web pages are design in the correct stanards that does not exclude any human being

My Experience in DKIT.

I have to admit that my experience in DKIT is one I will treasure forever. A major goal in my life was to complete college and better myself with an academic qualification. I feel that DKIT is a college like no other. When I compare my stories with friends from UCD and DIT, there is absolutely a major difference in the support level and student lecture relationships that DKIT provide. Another valid point I feel is the adaptability of the courses with the maturity of the students and current issues happening in the world today, for the hospitality industry I feel this is extremely important. If DKIT continue with this forward thinking they will have no problems in putting Dundalk on the map for quality in education

Oprah Winfrey

If I had to a person who has inspire through out my life it has to be Oprah. The woman by right is an influential leader and a credit to all women. Her talked show is the highest rated talk show in history and she is the only black billionaire in the world for 3 connective years.

The woman is the original true live stories from, rag to richest as she lived in poverty for most of her life. With a tragic childhood Oprah set on site on going to drama school then progress as a TV anchor were she got discovered for her talents and now it the host of the famous Oprah Winfrey Show.

Oprah herself never had children but open a university Winfery Leadership Academy for Girls, were she claim that the member are everyone of her daughters as the are either abandoned or without parents.

Personally she influence me to reach my goals in life and taught me that nothing on this earth is non achievable. Another thing she taught me is that the art of giving is more rewarded than receiving and most of all not to under estimate the power of women. I am sad that she is deicing to retire this year but I will make it my mission to attend one of her shows before she does.

Mobile Computing

This is the most extensive and up-to date product being used in the hospitality industry at the moment. Referring to the no strings attached device. These items are highly popular in the gaming properties and casinos. With the great success of the wire-less connection properties such as the Marriot have adapted the hand held devices as a competitive advantage. The hand held wire-less device has now replaced the hard copy version and now allows waiters to take orders on the floor and send the order by internet connection to the kitchen without leaving their guests.

I myself got the chance to use one of these hand held devices in a hotel. It was very practical as were I was based, was on the terraces gardens and the kitchen was based in the basement. It is great to see the hospitality industry moving with the advancement of technology and using it as an integrated system to gain competitive advantage. It also allows the service and your product to be move efficient and effective.

Man Made Islands

Ok I must admit I’ m a bit fascinated by the concept of a man made island. I suppose I can really put this down to as a childhood infatuation. I was a huge enthusiast for geography and loved learning how the world was formed by little micro organism. Being the girl I was and worrying about almost anything, I began to ponder what would happen when all the land was eroded away by water.

Then the solution came to like, Man made islands! So how are they made well its more simple than you think, they simply islands were construct the island using approx 600,000 tons of boulders and 3.2 million cubic yards of sand. The boulders, weighing up to five tons each, rest on the shallow harbor bottom and form a perimeter for each island.

The means of transport to these islands are either marine or air transport which literally may them the reminiscent of a “private island”. The most famous and extravagant man made island is the Palm world or Globe Island off the coast off Dubai. Such famous owners of different countries on the Island include David Beckham. The cost of countries on the Island range from 4million upwards, so you better get saving.
